Periorificial dermatitis

Periorificial dermatitis is a common condition. It is characterized by recurrent red patches and bumps localized to certain regions of the face, namely, around the eyes, nostrils, lips, and chin. “Periorificial” refers to these particular zones of the face. The condition is felt to be a variant of another common skin condition, rosacea. The cause is unknown, but some triggering factors are felt to be: ultraviolet radiation, temperature extremes, hormones, and stress. It is a very common condition in our mountain climate here in Teton County. Treatments are available. Periorificial dermatitis is best diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist.
