Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes red, scaly, sometimes itchy patches on the skin. It can occur anywhere on the body, but commonly affects the elbows, knees, and scalp. Some people with psoriasis can also develop a form of arthritis called “psoriatic arthritis.” People who develop psoriasis have inherited one or more of the genes that make them susceptible to the condition. However, the extent to which a person will develop psoriasis depends on their susceptibility to various environmental triggers, such as stress, injury to the skin, infections, and medications. Although there is no cure for the condition, there are effective treatments to control the symptoms of psoriasis. Psoriasis is best diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist.
