Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a condition characterized by itchy scaly patches and flaky skin predominantly on the scalp and parts of the face. Dandruff is considered a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis. The “seborrheic zone” of the face includes the eyebrows and nasolabial folds, which are the facial lines adjacent to the nose. Seborrheic dermatitis can also occur on the trunk, most commonly on the chest and groin area. The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown. Genetics, stress, climate, and an immune reaction to yeast and bacteria have all been implicated. Treatments are available for this common condition.
