Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by loss of pigment (white patches) of the skin. It is believed that people inherit a predisposition to develop vitiligo. It can occur in all races. It can occur anywhere on the skin, but commonly can occur on the face and certain parts of the trunk, which can result in significant psychological implications. Vitiligo is considered an autoimmune disease, which means the body’s own immune system “attacks itself.” Although vitiligo can be a lifelong condition, treatments can lead to significant improvement. Dermatologists are uniquely trained to diagnose vitiligo and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
